Which companies are adding roles right now, and which are cutting

A job count tells you how many roles a company has open today. It cannot tell you whether that number is climbing or falling, because a count taken once is a photograph. This is the movement: every role that opened and every role that closed across 1,210 company career boards, dated, with the crawler's own artefacts taken out.

Why these are hiring events and not crawler noise. Every opening is checked against the employer's own last-modified timestamp on the posting — the one number here that does not come from our fetch. 62.5% of openings carry a vendor timestamp within two days of the day we called them opened, median lag 1 day.

On its own that would prove nothing, so here is the control: requisitions already live on 2026-08-30, which are new by no definition, sit at 13.5% within two days against the same reference date, median lag 17 days. Openings measured the same way sit at 39.5%. A 2.9× separation.

35.9% of openings carry a vendor date more than a week old and are published as such rather than averaged away.

Adding roles

Net roles added over the window. Opened and closed are the raw counts behind the net, so a company churning heavily is visible as churn rather than hidden inside a small net.

No signup, no key. hiring-stats.json is every headline figure on this page as machine-readable JSON — the same file the page itself renders from, so it cannot quote a different number.

By location

The same measurement for one place at a time. A location needs at least 5 companies moving each way to get a page — a ranking with an empty half is a thin window, not a finding.

What this does not cover

This is 6 days of history (2026-08-30 to 2026-09-04). It is a new index, and the window rolls, so it is short by design. A window this length catches a hiring freeze in the week it starts; it cannot tell you a quarterly trend, and this page does not pretend otherwise.
1,210 boards are followed nightly, out of 25,568 in the directory. Being in the directory means the address is known and confirmed live. Only the followed set has an opened/closed history, and only that set appears above.
1,685 role changes are one requisition moving location, not hiring. A board that advertises the same job in three cities and rotates which it shows reads as a close and an open. Those are marked in the data file.
2,989 changes are the index's own coverage moving — a board read for the first time, or one that returned empty. They are excluded from every ranking on this page. Left in, they put a hospital system at the top at +1,496 on the morning its board was first read.
67.2% of closures came from a board whose own published total we could check against. The rest are boards that publish no count.

How a role change gets recorded

Every followed board is fetched from the vendor's own public API, once a day.
A role present yesterday and absent today is a closure; absent yesterday and present today is an opening.
Openings are checked against the employer's own last-modified timestamp, which is the only signal here that does not come from our fetch.
Days when the index's own coverage changed are detected and those events are excluded from the rankings rather than sold as hiring.
Every figure on this page is read from the measurement at build time. Nothing here is typed in by hand.
