Demo and placeholder boards in public ATS feeds

Applicant tracking vendors leave demo, training and template boards live on the same public endpoints their customers use. Anything that crawls those endpoints ingests them as employers. This is the list, measured against each vendor's own documented API, together with the boards that look like demos and are not.

779 postings across 12 vendor demo or template boards. They are not tagged as demos in any payload; the only way to tell is to read what they post.

Why this matters, with a published example

A recruiting firm published Companies Hiring the Most for Austin Roles (2026) ranking Leverdemo 8 twenty-second on 55 open Austin roles. That board is Lever's training environment. It carries 429 postings, of which exactly 55 say “Austin, TX” — the published figure, to the role. Its titles include Dolphin Trainer, Dog Groomer and ***POSTING TEMPLATE - ENGINEERING.

It reaches production elsewhere too: ZipRecruiter carries the same board as a company page under its own name, Lever Implementation Training Environment, and computes an hourly salary range from its postings. Checked again on 2026-09-08, thirteen more job sites serve one of the six Lever demo boards as an employer page: two quote its full 429-posting count as that employer's open jobs, and one sells a paid apply-on-your-behalf service against postings whose own text says not to apply.

Boards that look like demos and are not

This is the half a blocklist gets wrong. Suppressing these deletes real jobs from real employers. Two of the three most demo-looking tokens found in this audit belong to real companies.

The defect is an employer who never renamed the account -- any aggregator reading it publishes a company called “Your Company”.

Unresolved

Reads synthetic, plausible enough that nothing observed settles it. Published as unresolved rather than guessed in either direction.

Method

• Every board was called against its vendor's own documented public API. No login, no access control circumvented, one request per board.
• Verdicts come from what a board posts, never from how its token is spelled. demodesk, testlio and testRigor are real companies; a substring match calls all three sandboxes.
• Each row quotes a posting from that board so the verdict can be checked without trusting this page.
• Counts are what was seen when the board was last read. Boards change daily; treat a count as a timestamped observation.
• The same data as CSV: board-hygiene.csv.
